Sorry to say this @MaxthonJeff, but from what you've said in the video, it seems you are not trying to develop the best browser for people anymore, you are simply making this a playground for crypto schemes. I've spend 30522 hours using Maxthon (that's almost 3.5years of real time) over the past few years. Started using it since the era of MyIE2 actually. But in the past years the development cycle of MX has slowed down to almost a full stop. Simple bugs persist tens of version and most requested features and functionalities are ignored. There is no innovation, no interest in upping the security, compatibility or speed of the browser anymore and now, by introducing even more unneeded gadgets, tools, wallets and protocols to MX6 coupled with using "heavily customized core" you are again sinking into the depths of unamageable dependencies, that will only slow down the browser and annoy the users. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE maxthon. As i've said above, i've been loyal to maxthon for well over a decade now. But you are simply ignoring what people want from you and that is costing you your users that are migrating over to Vivaldi, Brave and other similar browsers that actually care about opinions of their users and let them shape the browsers. You are a visionary, nobody can take that from you. But perhaps you should think about your users in the first place and create a product they want to use. And then, only then, make the bloatware something that can be added by plugins and not as a main feature. That's my five cents to the topic.

Dear Maxthon users, You may already know that we are developing next major update of Maxthon browser, Maxthon 6. Here I want to share something information about it, including its value proposition, and how we will develop it. Value proposition: For existing Maxthon users, Mx6 will keep all Maxthon5 data and implement most useful features from mx5, and providing much better website compatibility, full chrome addon support, useful chrome features. For all users, Mx6 will be the world first Bitcoin powered browser, enabling users to explore and participate the next generation of internet - Metanet. More information about metanet can be found at bitcoinsv.com . Develop: The main browser features of mx6 will be developed based on a deeply customized chromium code base and existing mx5 codebase. All bitcoin related features will be developed by Maxthon team. Mx6 also has an open API to enable other developers to integrate their code. At Maxthon, we want to design the application of the future. Starting from 2003, Maxthon has been in the frontline of web innovations, today, seeing a new web is hatching from bitcoin(blockchain), we want to invite all Maxthon users to join this extraordinary movement. We can discuss all related information in this thread. We can discuss bitcoin here as well, but to learn more about bitcoin and metanet, the best place is bitcoinsv.com Jeff

As for me, I still want to retain the Features: Sidebar Status Bar (Especially System Info for Up & Down Speeds) Night Mode (Possibly Improve) Developer Tools Resource Sniffer (Especially! Barely used but helps BIG time) Snap (Frequently used. Useful at all times). Lastly... Gmail Notifier Extension (Not sure if Chrome has a similar/better alternative but this is very useful to me) I'd probably still stick to Maxthon as my all around browser no matter the changes. It carries most of my browsing data and I feel more secured with Passkeeper than Chrome's. One concern would be LivesOne & LivesToken. As Mx6 will support BSV, LivesOne will probably be left out. Hope the feature is still the same, Reward for Browsing, but please, no eating away CPU usage. Browsers already consume a large amount of RAM. Don't make it harder.

Not happening because why bother wasting time on something that will be obsolete in a few months? Especially given the amount of time it takes them to get it done. Spend 200 man hours on a core update on a product that will be obsolete in a few months. Or spend 20 hrs to fix some bugs and 180 hrs on the new iteration and get it out there sooner rather than later? Seems like a pretty easy decision... The only reason that wouldn't make sense is if MX6 is using MX5 as a base and any updated code for that would then be a part of MX6 anyway. But if they're working on MX6 being anything other than a chrome clone i think they barking up the wrong tree. They just need to make sure that it's unique enough that it stands out from all the other clones... It is, except that it seems the core update will be part of MX6. And how do you know these bugs weren't reported by many users? Don't use this forum as a yardstick to gauge activity of actual browser use. And just because you didn't run into any of those problems doesn't mean they weren't actually a problem.

OMG.... It's a MIRACLE! 1. Will I finally be able to come back to Maxthon, after stopping usage of Maxthon after "Maxthon Classic" due to the program becoming fat/slow/bloated, and losing good plugin support? This all caused me to stop using Maxthon and start using "360Chrome" instead which provided most of the features I needed in a Browser, i.e. much like Maxthon and nothing else out there, but also had Chrome plugin support. 2. The moment I saw the result of the new Maxthon I knew you guys needed to switch to Chromium instead due to the above reasons, but sadly it took you YEARS to do so, and I haven't been using Maxthon since Maxthon Classic. So, I'm very happy to see the change. I've been wanting my Maxthon back, 360Chrome was obviously missing a couple of things I liked with Maxthon. 3. Wth is with the "Bitcoin" gimmick? Guess I'll have to read through the thread to see, but honestly, this just seems dorky. Personally, I think you should just focus on making a BETTER Microsoft Chromium, stand above the rest like Maxthon/MyIE2 used to. Though, I'm okay with not being a shell anymore like they were, as long as we don't have the bloated crap of the recent Maxthon, as well the crashing crap of Googles Chrome, etc. 4. Microsoft Chrome Edge if they actually listen to me (unlike the ****'s of Google Chrome), implementing the missing features of Maxthon and 360Chrome, are you worried Maxthon will die? Is this part why the change, cause you've finally realized you've lost a lot of people, and seeing how the market's going? Of course, that's assuming the jerkwads will listen, but I suspect they won't like Google didn't, and the fact that Microsoft won't listen to people in relation to how we want Windows Updates to work, doing what THEY want instead. Anyway, looking REALLY forward to this.... I hope Maxthon can be my LOVE again like it used to be before the last several years crapshow. Thanks much...

Hello, As says @karajan, the certificate ends 02/07/2020, it has to be renewed, it's the job of the web master of vidlii.com. The use of a certificate is to certify that the Web page you want to acces is genuine, so that the domain is not faked, but you always keep the right to bypass this, at your own risk !! So send a mail to the webmaster.

Mobile version will be updated later. But don’t expect it comes with a lot of features because we don’t want it to be bloated. It may have some addons like ability, not finalized yet. Chrome store rule will not affect Maxthon features. We are considering to provide an additional store if we have resources to manage it.

And what about the mobile version of Maxton? Will there be new features for it? It would be good to have a sniffer, page translation and better night mode.

What is the expected time frame we will see the new versiom coming out?
  10. 3 points
Don't worry, in a month or so, they release version Beta, to fix this stable version As for version 6, in my humble opinion (I hope I'm wrong, seriously), I don't think it's going to be built, it's hard enough for them to get versions and fixes of these last ones, as to dedicate time to start a new project. What's more, the big support has always come from this community, where is it?, then in better places, obviously
  11. 2 points
why is it necessary to join somewhere else to get this version - is this not the official forum of Maxthon - you have testers here and a by invite only tester section - what point does that serve if you push versions to anyone who joins the Telegraph group which is effectively public

I'm watching the latest mx6 alphas, and I don't like the way it's going. Basically, if you don't implement the features that defined maxthon, I don't know what will be the reason to choose this browser over any chrome version or derivatives (each one with its own ideas and that define its browser, example of vivaldi, opera etc, to name a few) Losing faith for moments 😞

When will the mx6 preview be released. Now March 10

I'm trying it out at the same time, it seems to be in portable mode. I haven't used the installer. It has left me with a rather cold feeling, as soon as I start it, what appears is a "chrome" appearance, then looking at the settings you can see that they are more or less like in maxthon. It is missing many things that characterized Mathon: - screen capture. - video downloader and control window - status bar with access to volume, double window, zoon, and all the information that was given from the memo, network, cpu etc.. - File Detector I think he needs "a lot" of work to be called "maxthon", otherwise he's just another chrome. Interestingly, the 360Chrome browser is more like maxthon than the maxthon 6 browser itself 😕 And although it is early because it looks like an "alpha" version the languages are a bit mixed. In my case, choosing Spanish, the configuration appears in English and also in Chinese.

Thanks for the clarification my friends. It’s not hard to comprehend. It’s actully a common sense in building good product. Facebook started as a mischief to rate college girls. Google started as an internal tool. You can not design a product to please everyone, but always a certain kind of people, starting from yourself. Back to topic, although not seen by most people, I believe blockchain can help us build a honest world ( I really mean it in my presentation) and also help users get back their data from companies. That’s why we will build MX6. But it does not mean we will abandon users who don’t care. MX6 will be faster, compatible with MX5 and more importantly, compatible with Chrome, which means no annoying ‘please change your browser’ message, and bring massive Chrome addons to Maxthon users.

"I created maxthon to please myself in the first place"... now you made me sad. With a single superficial sentence you wrote off all the years I've promoted maxthon left and right to a simple "I don't care about the users, all I care about is myself". You had chance here to say something that would bring the community together, instead you did this. You know, I've defended Maxthon when it didn't work properly in MX3, I've defended Maxthon when it cheated in html5 test and I've spent countless hours arguing with Niels Leenheer about whether it's fair to simply remove maxthon from all the test results, I've defended Maxthon all the way until now when it came to every tough decision, every misstep when there were Nitro tryouts and unfunctional mobile browser versions, I did it all because of loyality and belief that Maxthon was different because you guys cared. But I guess I was wrong. And to mention the embracing of new technology and new ideas. Maxthon didn't innovate or bring new technology in years unfortunately. It became stale and outdated, so if embracing innovation is your goal, you have unfortunately failed. I wish you good luck with pleasing yourself, because you have lost me.

I think that there needs to be adequate comms up to the end of February as to whether we can expect MX6. Everyone appreciates the work going into MX6, but enough is enough...

there is a process to ask for certificatation, there are Tools but you cannot change date or self validate your certificate (or for testing locally). Certificates cannot be edited; they are signed and the signature becomes invalid if you changes the slightest bit in them, there is not a single bit that you can flip without breaking the signature. If you want to "modify" a certificate, then you actually need to obtain a new certificate. Certificates are obtained from a Certification Authority if an error message appears that means site owner or admin missed to renew; certificate has been made to validate your site as secure, though there are different certificates. make a search on the web to learn more

Can someone explain how having blockchain tech in a browser makes it more secure? I (think) I understand how it works in relation to a transaction process, but what/how does it offer security in a browser context?

Jeff wrote on the telegram, that the beta version may be released at end of February.

Yes, you will be able to do it. All extra features are done in the form of modules, it’s possible to disable these modules if you want.

This will be optional? Will there be any way for any user to opt out of the whole bigcoinc, biddata, bigXXX related theme that has the browser built in? We will be able to "be free" to choose if we want such options BIGxxx?

Hi there, thank you for your feedback. It's a bug, and engineers are analyzing it.
  34. 2 points
Well, that most browsers have a chromiun core, does not automatically make them clones, everything depends on how they do other implementations, as is maxthon or even vivaldi itself, quite different from the "father". As for the path it should take, as you say depends on what users want, which will be those who use the browser. I think it has already been commented here, but for example, http://chrome.360.cn/ , has practically the same appearance of mathon (settings included), but supports chrome extensions Now I'm playing with it a little bit. I may have found the browser jump I needed, too bad many things are in Chinese

theres a post from bugsir saying all updates to MX5 are on hold as they are working on MX6 - no time scale or info given - so we wait and wait and i would guess wait some more in the mean time Vivaldi works for me - its skinnable with work and has an up to date core

Did you miss me? Because I'm here and I will grumble... Again! What happened to your Extensions Center? After years of controversy, we finally realized that users really need extensions. But if you browsers does not have extensions what you users need, it does not mean you can just forget about the extensions that already exist. Does not matter what do we think ab out the browser, does not matter what the developers want to do with the browser, there are too many users who love it and will use even if Maxthon close the project. And this people probably would like to use the extensions. Maxthon's Extensions Center does not work: Users can not write reviews. Just check any extension page - last comment was written in February 2018, almost 2 years ago. I'm almost sure this is because of Mining Go and referral links/codes. I think Maxthon tried to stop all this spam and just close all comments. But why did you do this for all gallery, not for Mining Go page only? Sometimes we need a feedback, but you took that opportunity away from us. Where are all updates? There are not so many extensions for Maxthon, but I can not believe that no one developer has made any update for his extension. Just check Recently Updated - the last update is Shopping Assistant - August 1, 2019. The developer of SaveTube and ViewTube made several updates this autumn, updates for Maxthon is already done and uploaded, but still not available for users. When Twitter released new UI, I updates my mxaddon, but it is still not available too. Even if Maxthon fix the issues, the communication on Extensions Center is broken. There is no way to inform the developer about a problem with his extension: even if you write w comment/review, he will never see that. There is no notifications for developers. And if you like an extension, you can not see other extension from the developer. We don't know you plans, but almost every you user can explain what we want to see and what you should do.If you close Extensions Center (as you did for Skins Center), it will be very bad for the browser, the community and every your user. Come on!

Hi there, have you ever deleted the browsing history? Currently, the browsing history from which day?
  44. 1 point
I think you have misunderstood Jeff's comment. I'm quite sure Jeff means that his initial intention of beginning to develop Maxthon (MyIE2) was simply to please himself in that it was only meant to be used by him. He was dissatisfied with browsers he was using at the time and thought he could build one to better suit his needs. In doing so he also built one that other people also enjoyed. How this could make you sad is beyond me (unless,of course, you misunderstood what he meant).
  45. 1 point
to say the least, what an inelegant way to do : not even a private message to let us know that we would be downgraded. I should have taken this decision by myself, having not enough time left to moderate this place ( although there's not much to moderate now)
  46. 1 point
It is not as "updated" as you think, it has a very old core (more than a year, almost a year and a half)

Hi there, thank you for your feedback. Fixed! You could try it again.
  49. 1 point
Yes, but that's exactly what I think MX6 should be; Chromium + whatever the dev's think will make MX unique. There's no need to try and build almost everything from the ground up when you have a perfectly viable base kit to start from. BUT the problem is there's not much left to stand out from the crowd. Chrome is Chrome, Edge is pushing privacy and not being Google, Brave is pushing privacy really hard, Vivaldi is all about customisation & user choice, almost all have screenshot tools, PiP is now a standard feature in chromium (albeit not as good as MX or Opera's implementation). What do you do to make people say "hey this is interesting, i might give it a go instead of Chrome/FF/Opera etc.."
