  1. I must be the only one who didn't have lots of issues with AH. Since running with ABP i've been noticing ads & popups on sites that i haven't seen for ages/ever. Adblock is simple in useCan you explain what it is that makes ABP so simple to use? I found AH simple enough once you understand the basics.
  2. My question is why are you restricting your monitor to a resolution much less than what it can display? It's been a long time since i've used XP, but i'm pretty sure it was pretty good at detecting the monitors maximum resolution - and yours shows 4 more steps available. If it was purely to show the issue, then i'd like to know how many people still use a resolution of less than 1024x768. I've tested MX on a tablet with a res of 1366×768, and it was more than viewable. Unfortunately MX isn't very touch friendly, so it never got much more use. Also, if you're going to be making MX window that small then clearly you won't be needing all the toolbars etc, so turn them all off and you get more room. Once again, Maxthon is a modern browser designed for today's technology, if you can't or won't or don't have the option to use something else then find a browser that works as you want, but you can't expect everyone else to suffer for those that aren't able to utilise it as it is.
  3. Was the browser in use at all? If not, then it's somewhat questionable. If it was then i'd say it's just general browsing. At 1GB/day I wouldn't say it's anywhere out of the ordinary. A few websites, email, some youtube etc and before you know it you've hit 1GB.
  4. SWFlash0 replied at 2014-12-31 23:44 Want to know my opinion on this? 1. There shouldn't had been support for CSS in the AdHunter in the ... Some good points there. 1. CSS support in AH was a nice a feature, whether it was intentional or not it was handy. 2. If you disable then you're back to no adblocker? Surely that's worse than AdHunter? 3. Yep, much less user friendly now. But maybe that's the point if it's supposed to "just work". 4. It would have been nice if AH was able to be updated to use the same ABP syntax. I'm guessing that probably wasn't an option, or there wouldn't have been any benefit in it's blocking capability in doing so. So far it's only the first release, so hopefully things get better. Although i'm not sure what else Maxthon can do?
  5. Seems like a very heavy site. I've had MX freeze for a few seconds now and then when testing on this site. I think it might be something with adblock as it seems to run better with it disabled. ALL this problems don't happen with other browsers Great that you tested, and means that we can focus on what is/isn't happening in Maxthon. But just because it doesn't happen on other browsers doesn't mean that something on your system isn't causing an issue with Maxthon that is causing the site to behave weirdly.
  6. s_ta_s replied at 2015-1-4 02:39 Bookmarks open in a new tab too, even if the option is not selected The settings only seem to relate to the favourites menu & bar and work as intended in my testing. If you use the sidebar favourites then it seems to use it's own settings which aren't adjustable at this stage.
  7. RE: update issues - Something in the update system gets borked at times. Also they don't always put the most recent version up for the auto-downloader to find. Nothing more has been explained about that unfortunately. RE: the yahoo mail issue - for now I suppose we'll keep things separate. This doesn't seem related to that issue, and i'd be surprised if a simple UA change would fix this problem. Firstly, run through the troubleshooting guide. I'm thinking it's related to extensions (#7) or Adhunter (#5). But i'd recommend starting at updating to the most recent version and work down from there.
  8. This has NOTHING to do with any of the following: Browser data - so clearing cache/history etc won't help. The address bar favourite/history suggestions options in settings - so enabling/disabling won't help. Malware or virus related activity. Corrupt HDD or Maxthon settings files. (Not sure how it's though that is even relevant... but i've thrown it in there for completeness sake) This was first noted in this post back in November. It's related to the data source that Maxthon uses to match address bar entries to common domain names. Whether it's created by Maxthon or provided by a third party is unknown, regardless either they shouldn't be there or users should be given an option to enable/disable questionable sites. The only solution at this stage is to follow the directions in the post linked above, which will cause ALL suggestions to be removed.
  9. Looks memory related where you start getting graphics glitches if it's getting low. Strange that there haven't been any errors about low mem before this starts happening though.
  10. Still waiting for a screenshot and details on what happens if testing as requested in post #10
  11. The easiest way to keep everyone happy is just to offer a few options. Sure it's a little bit of work for the dev's but makes things a lot better for the users. If they already have the code to delete after 5 days, then it's not hard to make that 30 or 60 or whatever. They just need to code a dialogue that lets the user choose the amount of days. It seriously makes me wonder what these guys get up to sometimes that simple solutions are never offered. Instead they do something that no one would ever even think of because it's just a stupid option.
  12. visited the Merrill Edge website The site is use some javascript to test for the IE/Chrome/Firefox/Safari version. Other sites with similar banners probably do the same. Maxthon is still using Chrome 30 in the UA, as that is the code they use as their base. The site wants at least v31. So you have a few options: - Use a browser that doesn't cause the flag to be triggered. - Change your UserAgent to the a Chrome/IE/Firefox one with the required version. - Use a custom Maxthon UserAgent and change the Chrome section to 31 or higher. - Add *ose.override.js* to AdHunter to stop the Javascript file from loading and annoying you about something that may or may not have any affect on what happens on the site. I think there was some talk of Maxthon updating their core, but who knows when that will happen. When that does happen though the issue will be resolved. Basically, there is nothing that can be done till they update the MX core, everything else is just workarounds - all of which work, some are more viable than others.
  13. 30729109 replied at 2014-12-23 14:44 I spoke too soon! I ended up getting really frustrated tonight as not even this page would load com ... Read through the Troubleshooting guide. Number 8 & 9 is where I would start. Get back to us and we'll see what happens. The fact that other browsers are working ok, it looks like something within Maxthon is broken.
  14. Works fine for me using the standard UA for the WinPC version and also if changed to the Linux UA as noted above. So seems to me they're using another form of detection, which would make more sense. On the other hand if the UA change does work for you I can't see any reason why you shouldn't use it. If anything it should make the browser more compatible across sites leading to less issues like this.
  15. Good to see you got things working again. Looking at the log, there's nothing that really stands out, but you do seem to have a lot of security focused programs, and at times they can cause you grief when they all battle each other. Not to mention a huge number of processes running which just eat up CPU time. On the other hand if everything is working well, maybe just leave it alone. If it does come back as requested above, a screenshot would be handy.
  16. As above, looks like it's because you're using an old version of Maxthon. Everyone who has the most recent version (4.4.3.3000 or higher) seems to not have the banner - me included.
  17. Tweaking of the UA might be your only option, but it's also dependent on how they're detecting the browser version. It might be a case of just having to wait till MX for Linux is updated. What's the standard UA for MX for Linux? http://whatsmyuseragent.com/
  18. I also notice that clicking on the upper left screen Maxthon 'smiling' icon box, does not show me any link towards update any of the Maxthon versions, otherwise I would have upgraded sooner. That was a one off build from a different branch, and I think the new versions weren't detected in the updater because of it. Most badly affected is my POP3 email accountRunning through Maxthon? Or a dedicated program? Can you provide a screenshot of the issues (CTRL-F1 while running Maxthon)? Seems very odd and doesn't seem directly Maxthon related. If you can run HijackThis select the first option and paste the log file it creates here.
  19. Crashes To help the Maxthon developers find the cause of crashes, you can send crash reports found in the following folders. Open a Windows Explorer window and type the following into the address bar: For Maxthon 4: %temp%\MaxthonCrashData For Maxthon 3: %appdata%\Maxthon3\Temp\Crash Zip the folders and send the file in an email to: help@maxthon.com You can also make a post on the forum. Plug-in Issues First test with Retro mode. Ensure the Allow all sites to run plugins option is checked in the Advanced Settings page. Use Retro mode as an alternative until it's fixed in Ultra Adobe Flash For information on getting the most recent version of Adobe Flash working Maxthon please see this thread. Maxthon PDF viewer If you don't want the internal PDF viewer to open PDF files: Open a Windows Explorer window and go to your Maxthon install folder then navigate to the following folder: \Core\Webkit\ Rename or delete the pdf.dll file. Smooth scrolling Some advanced options can be changed for smooth scrolling. NOTE: Only available in Maxthon 3.0.1.2 and later versions. Open a Windows Explorer window and go to your Maxthon install folder then navigate to the following folder: \Temp\MxWebkit\ The settings are found in the file WKSetting.ini. Find or add the following section: [scrollPage] Add the current default parameters: ScrollPageSmoothly=true WheelBeginDumping=20 WheelEndDumping=50 WheelAccel=4 WheelStep=140 Parameter definitions: ScrollPageSmoothly = true: Enables smooth scrolling (default), set to false to disable. NOTE: this should be set using the option in Maxthon settings. WheelBeginDumping = 20: The amount of smoothing at the start of rolling stage. Range is from 0 to 100 WheelEndDumping = 50: The amount of smoothing at the stage the degree of smoothing parameter. Range is from 0 to 100 WheelAccel = 4: Roll acceleration factor. Range is 0 to 450 WheelStep = 140: Reference rolling step. Range is 0 to 300 If it seems that smooth scrolling still isn't working you can add the following paramater to force enable: ForceEnable=true Thanks to kliop00023 for some of the info included above.
  20. It does use a number of processes, I don't think it's per tab though. I think it's based around each function eg. extensions/plugins/main tab and some others. I'm not familiar with the userChrome.css. Maxthon skins files are just HTML/CSS, so if you know your way around that you should be able to figure it out. If I get a chance I might have a look before Christmas comes and give you some more details on what you need to look for.
  21. This is a basic troubleshooting guide for users to try and find the cause of issues. Following the guide should allow you to hopefully fix the issue, or at least figure out the source that is causing it so that when posting on the forum users have more information available to offer help. 1 / Are you running the latest version of Maxthon? Check the forum for any new releases and update/reinstall. Most issues will generally be resolved in new builds, or just by the reinstall process. Also ensure you have the latest version of Flash and any other plugins you might be using. If an update/reinstall doesn't work, try doing a clean install which removes all userdata during the uninstall process. Your userdata will be restored if you are using a Maxthon Passport. If you're using a local/guest account, make sure you have a backup of your Maxthon userdata folder (Open an explorer window and type the following into the address bar: %appdata%\Maxthon3\Users\guest). Keep a copy this folder, then copy it back once you have reinstalled. 2 / Do a forum search. Chances are someone has had the issue before you and a fix has been found. If you find a solution that works, reply in the thread so others know that it has worked for other users as well. 3 / Try changing to Retro Mode. A great feature of Maxthon that allows you to view a site using the Internet Explorer renderer in case the site has issues with Webkit/Blink. Main Menu > Switch Browser Core, or press the lightning button on the right of the address bar so it changes to a broken blue page. 4 / Connection error? (eg. unable to resolve domain name or can't connect error) try with another browser to see if it also has the same issue. Use a site like http://isup.me to check that the site is in fact online. Also check there isn't a problem with your DNS servers. You can try testing with Google (8.8.8.8) or OpenDNS (208.67.222.220) servers. And always provide a link to the site/page in question when posting so others can check to see if the problem is more widespread. 5 / Try disabling AdBlock Plus. Sometimes overly aggressive blocking can cause issues on a site. If this fixes the problem some of your rules may need to be revised. Post on the forum and someone should be able to offer a solution. 6 / Try deleting/clearing cookies There might be a corrupt or invalid cookie causing the problem. Deleting them will ensure new ones are created. Option 1: (Ctrl-Shift-Del) or from the Main Menu > Clear Browsing Data menu option, or toolbar. [Images here] Option 2: To delete cookies for only one site you can use the Developer Tools. [Images here] Option 3: You can also use the following 3rd party programs: - CookieSpy which can show Maxthon cookies, and DB Browser for SQLite which offer more advanced means of working with cookies. [More details here] NOTE: Only option 1 is recommended. Options 2 & 3 are only for advanced users. 7 / Try disabling all extensions. If disabling extensions fixes the problem then one of your extensions is causing the problem. Enable them one by one testing after each until you find the one causing the problem. 8 / Check the advanced options. Ensure you are using the default User Agent (should be unchecked), check with GPU acceleration on/off, and ensure that "Allow all sites to run plug-ins is enabled" if trying to troubleshoot a plugin related problem. These can be found by going to Main Menu > Settings > Advanced. If the above steps don't resolve the issue, follow the next steps which should help determine if the problem is with Maxthon, your account settings or system related and hopefully lead to the cause of the problem. 9 / Sign out of your Maxthon Passport. Check to see if the same problem still occurs. If not signing in fixes the problem, then it's more than likely a settings related issue. Disable all sync options from the menu then enable them one by one, testing for the problem until it occurs again. Once you know which settings are causing the issue make a post on the forum with the details for further assistance. 10 / Test with Maxthon Portable. Download & extract to any folder, run, check for the issue. DO NOT SIGN IN to your Maxthon Passport account. If this works then it's more than likely related to your install. Doing a clean install should fix the problem. If going through the above doesn't fix the problem, then start a thread on the forum to see if someone can help out. Offer as much information as you can, especially the following: - Any error messages; - What version of Maxthon and operating system you are running; - Any out of the ordinary programs (network related like firewalls, or downloaders like Orbit); - What you have tried to fix/find out what the issue was. Otherwise people will offer solutions that you may have already done; - And if applicable link some screenshots if it will make things easier for others to understand the problem. The best case scenario is you will find and fix the issue without having to wait hours or days for a response on the forum. At minimum you will narrow in on the issue allowing others to offer a quicker and more appropriate response for the problem. And you may learn something as well :-) Happy troubleshooting!
  22. Maxthon comes with a version of Adobe Flash to ensure the browser is able to play all Flash content upon installation, although this version isn't always the most recent. This is to ensure that any issues related to new releases of Flash don't cause issues with Maxthon. You can force Maxthon to use the most current version of Flash by following the instructions below. The most recent version of Adobe Flash is available from here: http://get.adobe.com/flash The "Allow all sites to run plug-ins" option must be enabled in Settings > Advanced. An auto-updater tool has been created by Truuuc which automates the procedures below. If you have any issues with the above, please follow the descriptions linked below. For Maxthon 5.x & 4.9.x follow the instructions in this post. For Maxthon 4.4.x and earlier follow the instructions in this post.
  23. Keeping the search box the same size should be a quick skin mod. Having it save the text input over multiple tabs could probably be done as well, but not 100% sure on that. Just to clarify, we're talking the searchbox in the navbar, correct? Not the find in page search accessed by CTRL-F. For extensions have a look at extension.maxthon.com.
  24. Seems the option to disable the popup messages, as shown in the link above, has been removed. And clearly the popup messages haven't been removed along with it. Seems a stupid way to go about things. That said I haven't seen one of those popups for a very long time?!
