v.4.4.1.2000 was the best version ever, too bad it's old and some sites don't work with it anymore. After fighting with black screen problem with v.4.9.4.2000 I upgraded to MX 5.0.2.1000, now I don't have black screens anymore.
But the VRAM usage is ridiculous, 1,7GB! and it can go even higher.
GPU-Z shows VRAM just fyi. ON the bottom gadget the blue color is system RAM(8GB) and yellow is page file(8GB).

While I understand Maxthon could be better at process and resource management, the main problem lies with Blink (the 'Ultra Mode' engine). Blink is maintained by the Chromium team, which forms the basis of Google Chrome. AFAIK their design decisions have been performance first/resource cost second while WebKit, the engine Blink forked from, is the other way around (that's partly why QtWebKit is making a comeback).
