BugSir009 - Sync appears to restore corrupted cloud data instead of overwriting it after local data is cleared and breaks Google Voice Search" in google.com and some elements like display pop-up map windows on Amazon
Hi,
No, it’s not working because it’s not overwriting the cloud data.
I deleted all extensions and manually synced about 20 times by clicking the Sync button under the hamburger menu.
After clicking, it says “Synced” in about 1 second (1 second!!).
Then I renamed the UserData folder and logged in again.
A new UserData folder was created, and all my extensions, settings, and the last theme I used were automatically restored from the cloud.
(It seems like it never actually syncs to the cloud.)
I deleted the extensions again, but obviously Google Voice Search was still not working.
Second try:
I deleted all extensions.
This time, after deleting each extension, I clicked Sync.
Then I reverted everything to Default and synced again (again, it took only 1 second to say “Synced”).
I renamed the UserData folder and logged in again.
A new UserData folder was created, and everything was restored from the cloud again.
My previous theme was “Oceanic”, but instead it applied the theme before the last one (which was Black) automatically from the cloud.
Third try:
This time, I followed exactly the same steps as in the second try.
After logging in, nothing was restored from the cloud for about 3–5 minutes.
Everything was Default: no Quick Access, no bookmarks, no themes, no settings, no extensions.
I immediately checked Google Voice Search, and it was working.
After 3–5 minutes, a bluish theme automatically applied itself.
However, something strange happened:
In the Appearance tab, it showed that the “Default” theme was selected, but the Default theme should be white/light.
The applied theme looked more like “Stars Fade” to me.
I clicked “Black” — the Black theme applied immediately.
I clicked “Stars Fade” — it applied immediately.
I clicked back to “Default” — nothing happened.
After that, Google Voice Search broke again.
I renamed the UserData folder and logged in again.
It launched with the Black theme applied.
I immediately disabled the internet.
The Appearance tab showed “Default Theme” as selected.
Then I enabled the internet and clicked Sync.
All extensions returned and were automatically applied with all my settings, and the last used “Oceanic” theme was restored.
Google Voice Search is still broken.
Hope this gives you some ideas.
Summary:
Maxthon Cloud Sync appears to restore corrupted cloud data instead of overwriting it after local data is cleared.
Theme data is applied inconsistently (applied UI theme does not match the selected theme in settings), and once cloud data is restored, Voice Search stops working.
Cloud sync completes unrealistically fast (1 second), suggesting that local changes are not uploaded, only stale cloud data is downloaded.
Reproducible Steps
Attempt 1:
Delete all extensions.
Manually click Sync 20 times via menu.
Sync finishes in 1 second each time.
Rename UserData folder.
Launch Maxthon and log in.
Result:
New UserData folder is created.
All extensions, settings, and last-used theme are restored from the cloud.
Indicates cloud data was not overwritten.
Voice Search is still broken.
Attempt 2:
Delete all extensions.
After deleting each extension, manually click Sync.
Revert all settings to Default.
Sync again (1 second).
Rename UserData folder.
Log in again.
Result:
Data is restored again from the cloud.
Expected theme: Oceanic
Actual theme restored: Black (theme used before the last one).
Indicates stale or out-of-order theme state in cloud storage.
Attempt 3:
Repeat the exact steps from Attempt 2.
Initial Result (first 3–5 minutes):
Nothing is restored:
No bookmarks
No extensions
No themes
All settings default
Voice Search works correctly.
After 3–5 minutes:
A bluish theme auto-applies.
Appearance settings show “Default” theme selected, but the UI looks like “Stars Fade”.
Selecting Black or Stars Fade applies immediately.
Selecting Default does nothing.
Voice Search breaks immediately after this.
Final Confirmation Test:
Rename UserData folder again.
Launch Maxthon and log in.
Maxthon starts with Black theme applied.
Immediately disable internet.
Appearance shows Default theme selected.
Re-enable internet.
Click Sync.
Result:
After clicked Synch, All extensions, settings, and Oceanic theme are restored automatically.
Voice Search remains broken.
Local reset + sync should overwrite cloud data.
Applied UI theme should match the selected theme in Appearance.
Voice Search should remain functional after sync.
Actual Behavior
Cloud sync restores corrupted or stale theme/extension data. Local reset + sync not overwrite cloud data.
Theme state is internally inconsistent.
Voice Search breaks as soon as cloud data is applied.
Sync completes too quickly (1 second), suggesting no real upload occurs.
Hope this gives you some ideas.
