Seize the web

I am almost done with the Norwegian translation, but exactly what do you mean with the word "Seize"? It can have many different meanings.

[ Last edited by hohansen at 2009-12-30 15:42 ]

Reply 2# hohansen's post

Seize same like Create ;)
Seize as in "Take Control" or "Take Charge"

in other words, you start deciding what you want to see and how you want to see it...

e.g. by using plugins/filters/ad hunter etc. to get the page to show how you want it and do what you want it to do...
I am doing the Portuguese translation

------

DONE! (and sent, of course)

Will start on Dutch which is not necessary

Let's spread Maxthon here in Brazil! I am doing my part :D
Thanks a lot. Well, Brazilian Portuguese is quite different from Portuguese?
Or they are mainly the same.

there's a lot of similarity but there's also enough differences to make it two separately recognized languages.

Then don't try to A good translation is not always a litteral translation, but on that translates the meaning. So in other words, go for what is customary to say in your own language as long as the meaning is largely the same.

Like for instance "Your Guardian of the Web" if translated litterally to my language, it could be understood as someone appointed to take care of legal matters for you until you are of age. While in fact it is meant like "Guardian Angel" i.e. your 'protector' while you surf...
I did it by myself about 2 years ago on my personal web space (link in signature) so the job was still done

Personally, i did translate "Seize" as "Dominate" (in my language is sounds similar to "Manage your Web", but having a stronger meaning).
What does mean "Maxthon's so secure you can throw away that blanket"?
I can get the literal sense (forget any other defense while surfing), but it sounds pretty strange.

Young children often carry  a "security blanket" to feel safe and protected which they eventually shed when they are older and no longer insecure.

Using Maxthon enables you to shed your "security blanket"

At least thats my take on it.

I'll jump in at the original author of a lot of that in English.  JarC is correct about Seize.  For those interested, it's a play on the Latin phrase "Carpe Diem," which means "Seize the Day."  The idea is to act now to take control.  If Seize the Day is not a part of your language's vernacular, it may be a good idea to try to come up with something with that meaning that is a play on words in your language.

ntzphyr is correct about the securityi blanket.

I'm surprised no one's asked about "out of the box." In English it's usually used as "thinking out of the box," meaning to come up with orginal ideas that aren't simply prepackages.  If out of the box would confuse readers in your language, we can try for an alternative.

If you have any questions, you can also email me at ron@maxthon.com.  I don't sleep much so don't worry about time differences.

I don't agree. "Out of the box" means just that; you take it out of the box and use it, or in this case, right after installing. What you are thinking of is "OutSIDE of the box" which refers to thinking outside of the box. I've been speaking English as my first and native language for more than 60 years, and the term "out of the box" will not be confused with "Outside of the box" for me. "Easy to use and powerful straight out of the box" means to me that you can use it as is right after installation, no customization necessary to use it right away. The line following the above quoted line "Created by people thinking out of the box to come up with new ways to use the Internet" should read "Created by people thinking outside the box to come up with etc." to be more accurate.

I also noted that the term Max is used just once in the document and Maxthon used everywhere else. I think it should be changed to be consistant throughout and because next to none of us on the forum ever refer to the browser as Max; we use MC, M2 and M3 to indicate which edition we are referring to. And finally, which edition is this document about? Sounds like M2 since many of what is mentioned isn't yet available in M3 and MC doesn't have everything either. If that is the case, shouldn't the whole document be revised to say Maxthon2 everywhere it now says Maxthon. I realize that it was originally written by a CNET writer, which just further illustrates how little the tech world understands the Maxthon family of browsers.

Here I mean that it's used in to different ways:
"The Ultimate Out-of-box Experience
Easy to use and powerful straight out of the box
Created by people thinking out of the box to come up with new ways to use the Internet"
First the ultimate experience right after installing and created by people thinking outside of the box, even though it says "thinking out of the box".
What about Arabic ?
