[M2-Html] Compatibility View, Show and Switch IE8 rendering mode without restart

Compatibility View 1.1.0

Show IE8 display mode
Depends on your settings and the website you visits, IE8 may use Standard, Compatibility, or Quirk mode to render a webpage, and different modes for different webpages. This plugin will show which mode IE8 is using for the current webpage.

Switch IE8 display mode
The plugin can change the rendering mode of http webpages. Similar to IE8's compatibility view function, all pages in the same host will be shown in the new selected mode when visited in future.

Note
- the plugin works only with IE8 installed
- the plugin uses Text Filter to append a compatibility header to webpages, so Text Filter must be enabled
- changes made with this plugin is applicable only to Maxthon but not IE nor other IE based applications
- changes made in IE8 is applicable to all IE based applications but will be overriden by this plugin in Maxthon

History
1.1.0
- Fixed a quirk mode issue. Now the plugin shows 3 states
- changed the standard mode icon with "W3C"

Actually it is possible to set maxthon to use compatibility mode without using this plugin, but the current option in MSC/advance is broken (once set to IE8 can't set to IE7, it is reported).

This plugin adds a meta tag to webpage by text filter to force the rendering mode. So yes the text filter Compatibility.xml can be modified so that it adds a compatibility mode tag to all webpages.

Thanks

Edit: looks like wrong file

BTW, find that using "Compatibility mode" in Maxthon Forum (Discuz6) can insert pictures properly. In standard mode picture can only be uploaded, and inserted only after upload, eg. when edited.
I found that for some site (like google, M2 forum, ...) M2 display the site in Compatibility mode, and double clicking on the icon of the plugin does not change the rendering mode... Is this a bug or...?

Update: forgot to mention that I'm trying it on M2 2.5.1, will try it in M2 2.5.2 beta2 this evening...

Have you enabled text filter? The plugin will check if text filter is enabled when it is started but not after.

If text filter is enabled check if "CompatibilityView.xml" is enabled, and use view source and see if the following is appended:
Copy to clipboard
Code:
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=IE8"/>

Ok, found the problem! When you doble click on the icon, the page is reloade, but nothing will beappend to the head section! TextFilters are enabled, ad CompatibilityView.xml are too.
In CompatibilityView.xml file, in section <keywords name="StandardView"> there is an item for each of the site I test, and are added anytime i double click

Oh, don't know if this could help, but...I've moved the plugin icon from status bar to Address Bar!

Strange. I've installed plug-in. The icon of it disappeared after Maxthon restart (build 2.5.2.3272) and Status bar got reseted  I've tried 2 times - all the same = bar resets itself and icon disappears.
Resolved by removing one icon from status bar (alt + drag out). But the plug-in's icon itself is unmovable (doesn't change color on MouseHover).

Which version of Maxthon are you using? The next time may be you can try moving the icon (right click status bar > add or remove button > customiz...) to other toolbars and see if the problem happens again.

Please check if the sites failed match your adhunter whitelist. MSC > AdHunter > Edit Filter List (under Content Filter) > whitelist

Sorry, i was not clear in the previous post
After some investigating, I've seen that no site is shown with a different "engine" when clicked on the button...So, it seems hee the plugin work only for show the rendering engine used, but not for change it!
Btw, my AdHynter list is empty

It seems that text filter does not work in your case. Does adhunter (content filter) work?

Yep... For the text filter, i've never use it, so i cannot say if it work or not... Maybe i can dowload a filter and try it, then i'll let you know
Thanks! I was going to say that I could not find the icon in the plugin bar and then realized that it is in the status bar.

Ok, I've tryed this one http://addons.maxthon.com/it/post/1971 (once of those i understand what it does :P), and it works on youtube!
In my case the mode is shown on left click or right click.  I do see a change in mode at http://www.webstandards.org/files/acid2/test.html
I do NOT see a change if I test on a forum page, it is always displayed in standard mode.
Edit: Another site where mode changes is MyYahoo.com

Right! On the acid2 test page, the mode change correctly, but in the foum, for example (or google, live mesh, wikipedia, ....), nothing change and the page is always displayed in a mode (google -> stadard mode, M2 forum -> compatibility, gmail -> compatibility, wikipedia -> compatibility, live mesh -> compatibiliy, ...)! I start think the plugin work, but there is something in M2 that prevent the right behaviour of the rendering engine...

(Remark: M2 2.5.1 her for now, will test the beta 2 on my home pc this evening!)
