Important: COM/IE plugin support is temporarily disabled in this version for testing purpose. COM/IE plugins will be supported in the final release

We are sorry that this update takes this long. This is because there are big changes and this is also why the version number jumps from 2.1.5 to 2.5.1.

In this new version, the browser framework is redesigned so that each tab works truly independent of each other. Together with a new anti-freeze technique, if a tab becomes unresponsive for any reason the other tabs and the browser will be unaffected and the user can continue to browse normally, and refresh/reopen/close the problematic tab.

There are also many other fixes, changes and improvements, please refer to the complete changelog below for details. Your feedback and report for any problem are welcome

Some minor problems found:
- when webpage is clicked, maxthon does not have focus (taskbar button)
- when blank page is opened, the current web page will flash (turn to blank and turn back) before the blank page is opened
- after maxthon starts up the first time maxthon downloader is used the dialog does not show up

I think the interface is not as nice as the previous versions have, but I like it.
I think the status bar is a little bit ugly.

After installation I have an other window frame style (Frame 1), but I should have the other one (Frame 2).
If I have one or more pages open and I click on one of the pages or working on a page, the program window and the page is active, but the program window is inactive according to WinXP.

Well, that sucks big time.  I should have known it wouldn't work with Windows 7 now I can't even get the previous version back.  What a mess.  Now what do I do?  I re-installed 2.1.5 but have to run it in Safe Mode.  Any suggestions?

A new version, wow.

Noticing within the minutes of using the beta, subjective browsing experience a lot faster (might also because of the disabled COM plugins), but I found that the Maxthon Downloader still won't start without administrator privileges under Windows XP.


Does anyone know a site where one could intentionally freeze a tab to test the response of Maxthon?

Every time I start new Maxthon beta, a log in window pops up even if I ticked not to show it next time. I'm starting Maxthon with shared account. How to disable this? Tick doesn't work.
Well - I've solved dumb   problem by logging to Maxthon with my not shared account - closed browser - started with shared - closed and started again - no more login window.

Please add the skin of previous versions to be able to switch to that if someone prefered the previous skin.

If I have a skin applied and I apply the same skin again, all of open pages are going white.

here it is:

no redistributing internal skins without accompanying permission from original author. There are instructions floating in the forum somewhere how to extract one from older versions, please refer to these instructions instead. JarC

I have a question:
When a page is loading the tab shows that little icon (loading the page) which is jumping. Is it a problem?

Switching between tabs using only the mousewheel does not work anymore.

Before this version, you could hover over the tabs bar and use the mouse wheel to switch between tabs. Now you have to hold the right mouse button while using the wheel to switch between tabs.
(The option "Use mouse wheel to switch tabs when holding right mouse button" also activated tab-switching without right mouse button when you hovered over the tabs bar prior to 2.1.5)

In addition, when you switch between tabs using right button+wheel, the tab where you started from does not get displayed until you release the right mouse button. You can cycle through all the other tabs properly, but when you reach the tab you started from, you only see the tab before that one. The old tab is highlighted, but does not show up. That is, until you release the right mouse button.

Do you mean the box containing the progress bar which shows how rapidly the page is downloading?

If so, it often jumps around on my screen while a page is downloading, shrinking a bit and then getting bigger and moving bit to the left and then to the right etc.

Well, it will only take you to the previous tab and no further.

Previously you could use it to move through your tabs.

Same problem with holding left button and clicking with right to go forwards.
