Earth quake pop ups.

Earth quake pop ups.

I feel for the victims and they are in my thoughts and I wish them well but  I do not want the pops ups every time I launch Maxthon 2. I am using Maxthon 2.0.9.1640 how do I disable the pops ups when I launch Maxthon?
Did it really popup everytime you launch  M2? Since on my laptop, I don't see that coming.
I think it's only a one-time popup, and since you are not using the lastest build (2.1.0.2082), you do not have that option in the advance settings(Show Message Notification Window), for now, you might be not to able to and yet  don't have to turn it off.

I am not using the latest build because they messed up the Web Tool Bar which I customize heavily. I read the thread about turning off the pop up with the latest version but as you mentioned that option is not available in my version.
FYI, the Web Tool Bar is not messed up (plugins live on their own bar again) and the only remaining difference is that some additional icons got right aligned by default with the leftmost of these starting a group, creating the separator.

And the popup only pops once...

From what I have read the Web Tool Bar will not retain any customizations you make to it. It has been reported in the thread about the latest version. It is a known bug that is supposed to be fixed in the next release. Since I heavily modify my Web Tool Bar it would make absolutely no sense for me to use the current version of Maxthon 2 if all my customizations will be lost on restart.

The pops ups occur every time I launch Maxthon 2.

Could you provide further information?

I think the pop-up shoud pop only once if we close Maxthon correctly.

Every time I launch Maxthon 2 I get a pop up. If I launch Maxthon 10 times a day I get 10 pop ups. I don't know how to be more clear about it.

Funny. I only saw the pop-up once. It was...mm.... last week.

In my case (using 2.1.0.1870) the popup shows only once. A key "MessageID=3010" was added to the config.ini of my profile under the "[updates]" section. If that key is deleted the popup will show again.

You may check if the key is absence in your case for whatever reasons.
I saw the popup yesterday once and that was it.

Confirmed in 2.1.0.2082

Deleting that entry from config.ini i can get the popup back.
Tried everything yesterday, to get it back.
Cleaned cache, cookies, changed my IP, crashed Maxthon, no way...

I too have only seen the pop-up once.

I even went back to the 2.0.9.1640 version to try and in that version I too get it only once...

Possible causes for the setting not being written or not seen as written

Maxthon installed in C:\Program Files
and
- Limited user account on XP
- UAC account on Vista with an existing profile in the C:\Program Files\Maxthon2 folder

or

No write access to the profile folder for other reasons.

A valid reason for objecting to the Click Aid pop-up

I am currently running version 2.1.0.1870 and just experienced this pop-up myself for the first time. My browser usually stays running while I hibernate Windows. My first thought when this popped-up was "wtf? a pop-up - I must have a virus (or about to get one if I click on this)!" However, after reading it and knowing that Maxthon is a Chinese-made browser I understood the "need" of the author to help his country. Also, I NOW understand all the calls from 100 or so of my users about "some ad that comes up when I start the internet..." And *THIS* is why I object -- as admins we have been beating-up stupid users for clicking on pop-ups and infecting their machines. Now, when they get a pop-up after years of not getting a pop-up they get scared and call.I too have spent hours running unnecessary scans attempting to find spyware that wasn't there. The fact that it pops-up everytime the browser is started made us think it was spyware. Since all these browsers range in versions from 2.0.something to 2.1.0.1870 there is no way to disable it and now I am looking at upgrading a bunch of browsers to get rid of the pop-up.As an individual (especially being in IT) I understand and can tolerate the minor inconvenience until my browser is upgraded. But, as an admin this has caused me considerable grief. This is not a post out of heartlessness -- my company has equipment, people, and money in China right now. Heavy equipment is our expertise hence the ignorant users. This is just an attempt to show a legitimate reason for the complaints. Thanks for hearing me out!Charles

Just read the 9th post in this topic and you have your solution. Would be very easy to script and put in a login-script if you want to.

A popup is a popup. Is not 'always evil' by default.
In this case it's an "holy popup", IMO

Trust me, i have seen this 'Click Aid' popup once in the past two days, yesterday morning.
Thanks to the abc instructions i have tweaked my config.ini to get it back (i wanted it to translate
and show on my personal webpage).

Nothing against Yahoo!, just as example, i get a popup about update to MSN every time i start Messenger,
since at least two months. That is really annoying, but never though to be infected. And i'm not the most
skilled computer user in the world for sure (trust me again).
As Maxthon's author is Chinese, certainly the admin feels for the people in China. Since I decided to use Maxthon, I don't really have an issue with this appeal. It even demonstrates the compassion of the Maxthon developers. They've never asked for help regarding a disaster relief before but since it is now so close to home, they have to do something. It's a valid action.

So people, please stop your whining. I, too, was almost stumped by the popup when it appeared. After reading the content, I immediately knew what was going on. I used Max 2.1.0.1870 and it only popped up once. That's it.

There's a tweak to fix the recurrent popup. Just do it and move on. There's more to Maxthon than just a popup. We, as avid users, know this very well.

Cheers,
