XPSP3

SP3 for xp is supposed to come out in february boosting performance by 10%. I wonder if this will also augment performance in Maxthon 1 & 2 or if these tweaks are already in Maxthon

I have my own gut feeling that SP3 will make it possible for M$ to cripple XP thus forcing users to Vista (Which is what they want so they have FULL CONTROL over everyone!)

Don't know details of the performance improvements. But any improvement to the IE engine, like javascript running speed, will benefit maxthon as well.
SP3 is out now (I have seen it on a few sites) I have read it will FORCE USERS TO UPGRADE TO WMP11!!! I would not advise installing this update!!!!! (wmp11 is trash) I HATE MICROSOFT!!!!!!!!!!!

I have read on forums from people using it already and that is not true about WMP11. It doesn't come with Media Player and one person on a forum I visit often is using SP3 with WMP9 no problems.
It does come with WMP11!

Maybe this is MS' way of eventually removing the need to support earlier versions of either.
I suppose you could GOTO EXTREMES to keep whatever WMP version you have BEFORE TAKING SP3 by doing the following:

Find ALL FILES related to WMP

UNCHECK "ARCHIVE" ON THE PROPERTIES (SO IT ISNT REPLACED EVEN WHEN 'LOCKED')

LOCK ALL WMP FILES!!!!!!!! (SO THEY CANT BE REMOVED)

That might be a way to avoid having 11 forced on you.........

From what I have read none of that was necessary. WMP11 is not included in SP3.
Did you click the BLUE ICON and read that other thread? Some ppl say it is and some dont...........

For those who want to see what "the horses mouth" has to say about this, try this link to the white paper site.

Thanks for that. No mention of WMP11 as I expected.
Of course M$ isnt going to say anything!!! Just check your WMP after you install just to be sure []

The Dude , who uses WMP anyway? i think that those who uses it , will anyway like to have version 11 , or maybe they even had it before sp3 ... they are not junk. they are just kinda bloated.besides , everyone can like whatever software they want. it's just a video/audio player. btw, where did you find sp3? all i can see is beta versions of it.

Just to be sure, I think you meant the Archive Bit will not be 'replaced' ? ...but on the off chance that you actually meant what it seems to look like to me. It will do nothing what so ever if you want to prevent the actual files being replaced...just in case someone might think this after reading the above statement of yours

Well if you UNCHECK "ARCHIVE" AND CHECK "READ ONLY" It makes the files harder to get rid of!!!! (I have done this before for certain things)

Dude, I don't understand you! You hate M$, but you still use Windows? Why? Are you "SM dude" [] ? Why not using Linux? Why so many exclamations? And SP3 for XP is NOT YET official! I have WMP11, although I don't use it! But, I can't see how WMP9 is better than Wmp11?

maybe he just likes the simplicity and style of wmp9. i like it more too. i think that it's the least bloated and the has the best interface of them all,yet it does lack of features. when i found a player that does about the same (yet sadly without audio support ) , and can have a skin of it, i immediately tried it out. you should try crystal player free. from some reason its company doesn't publish it anymore , and the last version of it (1.97) had spyware (which can be uninstalled) , but it was worth it. it has such cool features that still no other player has , like the thumbnail list of the files inside the player itself(look here), and the appearance of the buttons on the movie itself. here are its available skins: http://www.crystalplayer.com/cp/skins/ you can get the player here: http://www.ag.ru/files/software/292 (translated version here) . just remember to remove its spyware afterwards.

Not wanting to go into a discussion about this, but there is no better/worse with WMP, only more/less bloat and DRM restrictions...the quality of the sound won't get any better or worse coz that is fully controled by the codecs you install. [] And of course the interface differs, myself I kinda got hooked on the WMP 10 look, but not wanting more WMP than already came with XP, I just installed a WMP10 skin on KMPlayer and only a real windows geek will see the difference []

btw, crystal has the wmp10 skin too : http://www.crystalplayer.com/skins/WindowsMedia10.jpg it also has a skin of wmp11: http://www.crystalplayer.com/skins/WindowsMedia11.jpg i've known kmplayer for a long time too. great player. only thing that i miss is the ability to show the list of files inside the player window , and the skin of wmp9. the last versions also don't have subtitles bugs anymore (i think) .
When I load SP3 I'll just disable WMP11. Been using KMPlayer exclusively for a while now. I wish MS would release already. I read Fed 27 somewhere, but hope it's sooner.
