Maxthon Setup Center needs Javascript

Hi there. I reinstalled my Windows XP from scratch then Maxthon2 today but I can't access Maxthon Setup Center. It just shows the setence "Please enable Javascript to view this page" and a blank webpage. Of course I tried to tweak the Internet Security Options but no success... I set ALL zones to the LOWEST security possible option but no success at all... Hope someone could help me. - Windows XP SP2 - all patches - IE7 7.0.5730.11 - all patches - Maxthon 2.0.2.2961 UNICODE Some screenshots. It's in portuguese but it shows what you need to know (i think): http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/6887/ma...noptionssw1.png Shot at 2007-08-04 http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/7249/op1zw4.png Shot at 2007-08-04 http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/3940/op2hg8.png Shot at 2007-08-04 http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/7241/op3xh5.png Shot at 2007-08-04 http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/4825/op4ou0.png Shot at 2007-08-04 images converted to links, we all know what these dialogs look like, and it makes the post needlessly large. ~JarC

You need to install JVM. Java Sun []
@Whiteshark No really... I've installed it and nothing happened yet... [] [] []
I, too, fail to see how (not|)having java installed would affect how javascript works. The obvious question: is javascript enabled in maxthon content control (globally or at least for the settings page) ?
Sure javascript is enabled... I cant check Global Settings because it sends me to the Setup page which is the one I can't reach... By default it runs javascript so I don't think it is the problem... I just checked Flickr and Gmail which have a lot of javascript and everything works fine. Really don't know what to do.
The Maxthon Setup Center is a local page, so settings in the Internet, Intranet, Trusted Sites, Restricted Sites are not relevant. It is the settings in My Computer that affects the Setup Center. But My Computer's security settings are not available in IE's security settings, so there may be some applications in your computer which tightened up your security settings in My Computer. Extract the attached test.zip to your desktop and open test.html in maxthon. If you get an alert of "hi", javascript is enabled in your My Computer.

Sorry, may be i'm wrong. The OP said he have installed XP from scratch. AFAIK JVM install is needed for get every java application working. As everyone knows, the old Microsoft Virtual Machine isn't anymore supported by MS, at least since a couple of years ago... [] Edit: Just for test, i've tried to open the file C:\Program Files\Maxthon2\template\Options\index.htm in IE7. I get exactly the same page shown in the first screenshot posted by fraveu, and a yellow warning bar saying that scripts and activeX are blocked due to security settings. Hope this helps
Please don't confuse JVM (Java) and Scripting (Javascript). []

My ignorance [] Sorry []
I just ran the page TEST.HTML and I didn't got the alert... I tried on IE7 and I got the same as Whiteshark: "a yellow warning bar saying that scripts and activeX are blocked due to security settings" What does it tells us? @abc@home: I don't (think I) have ANY fancy apps that would be doing this security thing on my computer. I just reinstalled Windows, so... I downloaded all security patches from Windows Update though.
It means you can run js in local page in IE but not in Maxthon. So I think that js is disabled in Maxthon but it is strange that you can run js in web pages. Maybe you can try install maxthon to a new folder and see if it works.

To be clear, TEST.HTML here works fine in both browser, M2 and IE7. It opens fine and i get the "hi" message (that mean "Ok, javascript is enabled") The file that doesn't open in IE7 is 'index.htm' (that is the main page of MSC).
No more leads? Anything would be helpfull...
May try doubleclick the sp2removal.reg inside Maxthon folder. This will make some sp2 restriction not applicable to maxthon.

[solved] No Setup Center without javascript

If you read my post you would notice that I set the security options to the lowest possible level and no success at all...

Obviously Active Scripting is ENABLED!

Uh...please go back to the topic I pointed you to, and read it again...especially the last post in that topic. [] I did read your post, that is how I know you did not do as I told you. It will work better if you do this in the correct zone. As in the "My Computer zone", which is only accessible by tweaker programs, and your post mentions every other zone, but not the "My Computer" zone

JarC, I didn't use any tweak programs to change any options and I don't know how to change any settings on "My Computer" Zone... If you could help me on this I'd thank you a lot.
Now I solved this shit... Some research on the net and... set HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones "1400"=dword:00000000 (Mine was 3. Dont ask me how!)
