[Bug report] [solved] MSN Money Portfolio issues

EDIT: The latest beta version of Money Central (released on April 7, 2005) seems to have fixed the problem. Refer to [post=134260]these posts[/post] for more details. ~Tara I used to visit MSN Money Portfolio page and it worked fine with Maxthon .178, but since Microsoft upgraded it's Portfolio to their new version, Maxthon closes suddenly with no warning after a few seconds I visit that page. Open the Options window and try disabling all Ad Hunter options. Does it help? If not, try disabling plugins or changing the Download settings.

Has anyone else experienced this problem in the 1.0.0178 build? Thanks

Doesn't crash for me.. are you sure you are using build 178?  Seems like something 170 would crash on but builds after that seem to be fine.

Mine (1.0.0178 Unicode) is knocked out without a warning with the new MSN Money. Not only in Portfolio, but at the quote page (http://moneycentral.msn.com/scripts/webquote.dll?ipage=qd&Symbol=%24INX).

Just closes up after 30 seconds sitting in the page. Portfolio shots it down right away. I have to revert to IE to browse MSN Money.
I have same experience with the MSN Money upgrade and quotes. .178 & XP
178 win 98 se IE 6 works fine
1.6.3 (Unicode) - IE 7.0.5730.11 - Windows XP Pro SP2 English
OK.. looks like there is some problem with the Unicode version. My version doesn't crash though.. I may just have unrelated issues.

Has anyone tried changing these settings? Does that make any difference?

Page loads fine. No crash
MOney site doesn't crash me either.
Tara, I turned off plugins and ad blocker and no help. I uninstalled Maxthon and installed MyIE2. Same thing although I used MyIE2 with the MSN Money Portfolio before their upgrade with no problem. In MyIE2 it flashes MyIE2 has blocked an error before it goes to never land. So it isn't you that is the new variable it is them. Of course the MS in MSN stands for you know who and they don't care if we can't use a browser other than IE. In fact... As I was writing this the first time my computer rebooted. Pretty scary, huh. That's why I went back to MYIE2 but found the same problem (crashing not rebooting). Well, I can't give up Maxthon. I'll just have to quit opening MSN Money portfolio in it. See if you can shape up Microsoft. PS The MSN money pages don't crash, only after you have downloaded and opened the "deluxe" portfolio (which for what its worth requires being logged in to MS Passport).
(series of ?'s here..) Does it crash while using IE? Have you scanned your PC for any viruses/spyware? (trend micro has a free online virus scanner, and spybot search & destroy is a free spyware scanner) Also, is your OS completely updated via windows update? And lastly, can you go to Help (on Maxthon's menu bar) >> Report to author and copy/paste that information here? Thanks []

I agree with FreeODB - the "Report to author" info may be very helpful here. And scanning the PC is a must for sure IPB Image

Yes, I've read a few similar reports in the MyIE2 forums [link] and they also mentioned the fact that it stopped working after their latest upgrade. But the weird thing is that their site still seems to work fine for many people!

So - one major question - what is "the deluxe portfolio"? Is that an IE plugin? If so, then this is the culprit I suppose...

I also have the crash problem with the new MSN charting/portfolio version.  As it happens, I just switched to a brand new laptop that is totally clean, with plenty of anti-virus and spyware protection, and both the old machine and the new one have the same problem that Maxton crashes within a minute of going to either MSN portfolio or MSN charting.  Until a week ago, when MSN updated their software, both MyIE2 and Maxthon worked fine.  The MSN Money (web) version is a much more extensive installation process than in the past.  I don't know anything about how the code works, but it's a DLL in the URL.
I'm using .0178 and experience the crash everytime I visit the site. I've tried it on several computers with the same result and have disabled all Ad Hunter options as suggested.
Welcome to the forums Biztek Thanks for the confirmation. I have submitted this problem to our bug tracker system.. but there's one thing that I'd like to have clarified... pinpin, FreeODB, lhdal, dunsel - you have reported that the site works fine for you. Could you tell me this please: do you also have the "deluxe" portfolio installed? Thanks

I don't have the deluxe portfolio installed, atleast I don't think I do.. how can we tell and where would be a link for this download?

Thanks FreeODB Judging from these reports, that site would probably crash the browser for you if you did have it installed... As for the link, I'm not sure... I don't have an account there so I can't sign in.

If I visit that web page in the first post then all runs OK. There is a link on that page for "Upgrade now! to track employee stock options, bonds" If you click the Upgrade Now! link you can download the MSN Money Investment Toolbox for a more dynamic and cool window. But, after adding that control (ActiveX ?) then when I visit the link again with Maxthon then I either get 100% CPU or Maxthon crashes. This is also with the latest RC version so it doesn't look like it will be fixed in the next version.
