Maxthon 5 on Windows XP freezes on some websites

Recommended Posts

I'm running Maxthon 5.2.5.2000 on Windows XP SP3 and I noticed some problems opening certain websites:

https://whatismyipaddress.com  -- Maxthon freezes and must be killed through Task Manager
https://www.whatismyip.com  -- Maxthon freezes and must be killed through Task Manager
https://www.expressvpn.com   -- Page does not load/render correctly

Again, this is on Windows XP 32-bit. In Windows 7 64-bit all websites work correctly. Any ideas ?

Edit:

I tried opening the first 2 pages in Google Chrome and they did open, but the "https://" part of the URL was crossed out.

When trying to open the first page in Firefox, I got a message from NOD32 saying that the certificate of the site is "untrusted". Seems to be some cloudflare ssl certificate valid until 2019. Certificate properties show "This certificate has an nonvalid digital signature". I don't get this message on the Windows 7 computer though. After a few clicks on "Allow" on NOD32 prompts, the page does eventually open in Firefox.

Could it be that Maxthon chokes when trying to open a page for which NOD32 opens that popup (although it does not do that when trying to open the page with Maxthon). I also tried to "pause protection" for 10 minutes in NOD32 and opening the page in Maxthon again, but it still froze.

Maybe it hangs on Cloudflare protected websites. I Googled for a list of those and found https://laravel.com and even a regular http:// one http://bittrex.com and and sure enough, they both cause Maxthon to freeze on Win XP.
