Is Maxthon still using Silverlight?

Recommended Posts

I ask concerning Silverlight because I want to know if I should refrain from uninstalling it.

I'm mindful that Chrome, Firefox, and SeaMonkey have dropped it.

I am able to enter a title here but there is no box for me to enter the body of this post. Why?

I am also unable to get this forum to load for me on the Maxthon browser. I had to go to SeaMonkey to post it.

If you need it, leave it. Otherwise get rid of it.

Check your settings, make sure the custom user agent check box is unchecked, or set it to Maxthon.

In the past using other ones has caused issues as described.

You should also update to the latest version of Maxthon.

Could you tell me where to look for this?

Check MainMenu > Settings > Advanced > scroll to the bottom

I don't know if I need it. Silverlight is a plug-in program. Most browsers seem to have gotten rid of it. I need to know if Maxthon is still using it to determine if I need it anymore.

I still can't find that. Could you show me a screenshot?

"Maxthon" doesn't use it - websites do. Maxthon only allows it to be used. Removing it because other browsers are doing that isn't a good reason to do so.

If you need it and you don't have it, you should get a prompt to install it.

If you do have it and you don't need it then it will just sit there doing nothing.

Either way I don't think it matters whether it's installed or not. The ONLY time it would matter is if you do use it now and removing it would mean that you have to re-install it.

Type User Agent into the search box on the settings page.

You can't miss it.

Thanks. I tried that search and came up with nothing.

Well, then try maim_menu > Settings > Advanced > Customize UserAgent string  and check mark  that.  You entered "user agent" instead of "useragent"

The item is at the bottom of the page.

Follow the numbers on the image.

Either uncheck the checkbox so it uses default, or check it and select the Maxthon option.

Two words is correct. Entering "Agent" will get the same result.
