  1. Disable address bar Auto-Suggestions Maxthon doesn't offer an option to disable address bar auto-suggestions. To manually disable this feature follow the instructions below. Open Notepad with administrator privileges, add the following line to your HOSTS file and save. 127.0.0.1 api.bing.com The HOSTS file can be found %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc See note #1 Navigate to the \public\SmartUrl folder in your Maxthon install folder (or in appdata\roaming\Maxthon5 for installer version) Rename (or delete) the original update.db file (see image below). Create a new empty text file named update.db and mark it read-only. See note #2 Restart Maxthon and the auto-suggestions won't show up. Before auto-suggest fix After auto-suggest fix note 1: This change won't affect anything else except any other programs that use that address for the same suggestions. All it does is tell the browser the IP address for that URL is the localhost address instead of the correct one, so nothing leaves your computer. note 2: The only caveat is that when typing in the address bar it seems the matched URLs are a little slower than normal. Not 100% on that, but that's what it feels like. And of course i'm unaware of anything else it might break.
  2. Clearing cookies using Developer Tools FOR MX5 (5.1.x and later) - Open the Developer Tools (F12)- Go to the Application tab, click the Clear storage item. - Ensure at least the Cookies option is selected in the right pane. - Click the Clear site data button. - You can also right-click on the site address under Storage > Cookies and select Clear. FOR MX4.9 (and early MX5 versions) - Open the Developer Tools (F12)- Go to the Resources tab, then the cookies section. - Right-click on the address you would like to clear cookies from and select Clear. - You can also select individual cookies if required in the right pane.
  3. CrashesTo help the Maxthon developers find the cause of crashes, you can send crash reports found in the %temp%\MaxthonCrashData folder. Open a Windows Explorer window and type the path into the address bar. Zip the folders and send the file in an email to: help@maxthon.comYou can also make a post on the forum.Plug-in IssuesFirst test with Retro mode.Ensure the "Allow all sites to run plugins" option is checked in the Advanced Settings page.Use Retro mode as an alternative until it's fixed in UltraAdobe FlashFor information on getting the most recent version of Adobe Flash working with Maxthon, please see this thread.
  4. Maxthon comes with a version of Adobe Flash to ensure the browser is able to play all Flash content upon installation, although this version isn't always the most recent. This is to ensure that any issues related to new releases of Flash don't cause issues with Maxthon. You can force Maxthon to use the most current version of Flash by following the instructions below. The most recent version of Adobe Flash is available from here: http://get.adobe.com/flash The "Allow all sites to run plug-ins" option must be enabled in Settings > Advanced. The MX Flash Updater is recommended to check and update your system and Maxthon Flash version. The auto-updater tool created by Truuuc also automates the Flash install procedures below, along with some extra options for languages and other plugins. NOTE: the update programs or the instructions below will NOT work for Windows XP/Server 2000/2003. If you have any issues with the above, please follow the descriptions linked below. For Maxthon 4.9.x and later follow the instructions in this post. For Maxthon 4.4.x and earlier follow the instructions in this post.
  5. Return the normal font! (MX4.9)

Did you check ClearType and the DirectWrite option on/off?
  6. Return the normal font! (MX4.9)

Have you setup ClearType in windows? Search for "ClearType" in windows and follow the instructions. Could be that MX4.4 was using a different text rendering method that didn't used ClearType. If MX4.9 changed that, if your ClearType settings aren't set up correctly you'll get weird text like that. Looks like a case of the text not being aliased properly, which is something that ClearType does. Although not sure how the new DirectWrite option changes that. I've had no issues with it, looks the same as it always has.
  7. I think it's irrelevant what fonts it works with or not, especially as Maxthon doesn't have any advanced font management options. Default, which is what most users will be using, is what it should be made to display with correctly. And all that is required is the use of the standard apostrophe, instead of the weird non-standard variation that is in use at the moment. ’ This is what is being used - Alt+0146 on the keypad to type it. ' This is what should be used - apostrophe key on keyboard. As to why it's happening, i don't know, but the fix is simple.
  8. Extension for intercepting new window/tab requests?

Yeah the dev community is a little dead which is unfortunate, but understandable considering Maxthon is very much a niche browser. I don't agree with that. Much of the API's haven't changed much since the MX3 days, apart from some small revisions/additions. Almost anything written for MX3 should still run in MX5. In fact I think the framework version has only moved from v1.0.0 > v1.0.6 since MX3. As far as your original question, I'd say the popup blocker is what should be doing what you want. Unfortunately there are some sites that get around it as well. Although i've noticed the same on FF as well. While you probably could create an extension that parses each URL, it's well beyond my scope - at least to the point where it's actually usable.
  9. Black screen with 4.9.4.2000

    link works
  10. Looks like something caused it to freeze. I'd just restart the browser and start again. Make sure you're using the most recent versions and try disable any extensions to make sure they're not causing the issue. I tried doing as you described and had no issues.
  11. What happens when you use the restore option from the taskbar (shift+right-click on the taskbar icon)? It's supposed to work as intended. First time I recall that someone has mentioned this. Do the other buttons work as intended?
  12. Where is my download button?

As noted in the screenshot, you're using a HTML5 player. Seems there's some things that aren't implemented yet with the popup bar for HTML5 content. If there's an option to use Flash, try that and hopefully it might work.
  13. show extensions

Nothing gets added to the toolbar as A.S. said. It just adds a download button under the video which you can click. Although i'd recommend using Youtube Centre instead. Has more options and the download method is direct rather than a redirect link to savefrom.net.
  14. If you're moving on then that's your call. If not and you're going to put up with it, then 10mins to try and resolve the issue is much better than always dealing with the issues.
  15. That's understandable, but expecting a fix when there is no known cause isn't going to help. As stated, i don't have the issues - if MX was at fault then a significant number of users should be affected. Slow startup/crashes etc solely caused by the browser are rarely the case. There's generally an underlying issue. I would recommend MX5 as it's built on a newer core. Unless you don't like infobox or something else in it. But then that leaves your system/hardware or possibly some userdata or software conflict. Have you tried going through the troubleshooting thread?
  16. What sort of system are you running on? the constant refreshes, hangs and ages to start seems to be related to poor hardware rather than anything that MX is at fault of. Only issue i have with facebook is the page scrolling too far when using the mouse wheel at times. Otherwise, i have 1 tab on facebook open almost 24/7 while the PC is on and can't ever recall it refreshing when looking at it. Passwords issue - how about a link to a page where it doesn't work so we can have a look. It could just be a poorly coded site with stupid field names that MX doesn't like or work with. There's a known issue with some of the Microsoft sites logins that I recall... but not many others that i'm aware of. Yes, if you don't say then no one can help and try to find the cause and fix.
  17. All broken? As in the nothing works... Ok then!? How about some info on what the problem is so it can be resolved, rather that a pointless comment?
  18. Importing user data

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Although it wouldn't make much of a difference, he same thing will happen. Guest mode as noted above.
  19. I've never known Maxthon to offer the option of which PDF reader you want to use. If you want your system default PDF reader to work, just delete or rename the pdf.dll file in Maxthon4\Core\Blink\plugins.
  20. No. Sure it has it's niggles and things that it may not do as well as other browsers, or things that might need to be done differently, or even missing features - but i've been using MX since myIE2 and even after playing around with other browsers I find Maxthon is still the best fit for me. if you could point exactly to the issues you're having it would help in trying to resolve the problem.
  21. Importing user data

If you haven't started the new portable version then there are no folders. All you need to do is copy the Userdata from your old portable version into the new one. Or you can copy just the UserData\Users\guest folder if want a cleaner update. The QA data is imported correctly between minor version updates, not sure about Major updates. Will test when I get a chance as I don't use QA. There is no automatic import of portable versions because it could be anywhere (although you could just copy the Userdata into %appdata%/Maxthon3 and the importer will find the files). But copying the folder is all that is required and has worked for me for some time. The beauty of portable is that if you keep a backup of your files, if something doesn't work on the import you can just go back to the version you had without an issue till it's resolved and try again later.
  22. Closing this thread... please continue in the original one linked above.
  23. Sooo do any MX5 skins exist?

See my 2nd post in this PM thread...http://forum.maxthon.com/index.php?/messenger/1084/
  24. Where are my password?

Looks like it's mxpwd.dat in the MagicFill folder.
